At Joint Implant Surgeons the physician assistant is a valuable member of our team. Our physician assistants have gone through an intense training program, have subspecialty experience in adult reconstruction of the hip and knee, and are part of a team of highly skilled medical providers with the sole purpose of providing excellent medical care to our patients.

Patients often ask us, “What does a physician assistant do?” We say physician assistants provide exceptional patient care in a professional and compassionate manner. Our physician assistants are involved in every patients care from the initial evaluation throughout the surgical experience and the recovery process. The experience of our physician assistants has allowed us to increase our efficiency in the operating room resulting in shorter surgeries and faster recovery times for our patients.

The American Academy of Physician Assistants (
www.aapa.org) defines a physician assistant as the following: Physician assistants are health professionals who practice medicine as members of a team with their supervising physicians. Because of the close working relationship the physician assistants have with physicians, physician assistants are educated in the medical model designed to complement physician training. Upon graduation, physician assistants take a national certification examination developed by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistant’s in conjunction with the National Board of Medical Examiners. To maintain their national certification, physician assistants must log 100 hours of continuing medical education every two years and sit for a recertification every six years.
